Investing

  • Supporting the creation and execution of a private investment management company’s nationwide community-engaged investing carveout

  • Launched Common Future’s Capital Strategies (now Impact Investments) department

  • Led Common Future’s co-design and investments into character-based lending (CBL), revenue-based finance (RBF) and community-owned real estate (CORE) deals for communities of color across the US

  • Sourced and diligenced program-related investments into criminal justice and higher education

  • In aggregate, key contributor on deal teams that have invested millions of impact-first capital into communities of color

  • Board and Investment Committees:

    • New York Foundation ($50m private foundation - Board, Vice Chair of IC), supported selection of new, mission-driven investment partner and update of IPS

    • UUCEF ($250m common endowment fund - IC), co-lead growth of community investment program

    • Invest Appalachia ($20m investment fund - IC), support review and approval of catalytic investments into Central Appalachia

    • North Star Fund, (community foundation - FC), review financials for New York City’s social justice community foundation

Educating

  • Launched “Capital for Good: Finance, Investment and Social Justice” at The City College of New York (CCNY) in 2022, the first course of its kind at the college, focused on enfranchising and empowering CUNY students unfamiliar with this field. Initially an elective, thanks to the course’s positive impact and reception, it’s been invited to become a core course for the MPA program.

  • Teach “Community-based Investing” at Tufts University, a core course within its Certificate in Impact and Sustainable Investing.

  • Active member of the Impact & Sustainable Finance Faculty Consortium at Kellogg, a global community of educators in the Impact Investing and Sustainable Finance realms who share and learn with one another.

  • Co-founded and co-host the podcast Impact(ed): Investment Education Powered by BIPOC Practitioners, a featured podcast in the ImpactAlpha podcast network.

  • Led national expansion of Transform Finance’s “social justice investing” workshops, which educated hundreds of activists, organizers and social finance institutions around community investing and corporate accountability.

  • Expert reviewer for progressive investment policies and proposals coordinated by the Global Impact Investing Network, Opportunity Finance Network and others.

  • Design, manage and lead the Trustee Leadership Forum’s Peer Mentoring Project for public pension fund trustees at Harvard Law School’s Center for Labor & a Just Economy.

  • Design, manage and lead the inaugural Shareholder Engagement Project (SEP) — with the Nathan Cummings Foundation, Educational Foundation of America and Noyes Foundation and a dozen participating foundations — to get more philanthropies to be Active Owners.

  • Partnering with the Rematriating Economies Apprenticeship (REA) to increase the number of indigenous women in investing

  • Co-chaired “Responsible Investing Advisory Group” for then-candidate, now NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, and served on his Transition Committee

  • Facilitated Participatory Budgeting in local Brooklyn district for three years.
